Being a woman today can be stressful. Many of us are trying to balance work, family and other obligations and are finding that there is just not enough of us to go around. Many of us are feeling, tired, stressed and worn down and this can leave us more susceptible to health problems. That is why it is so important for women today to be proactive about their health. But what are the major issues concerning women’s health today? When researchers from The Mayo Clinic compiled statistics provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other organizations, this is what they found:
- The number one health threat facing women today is heart disease. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle including regular activity and exercise and a balanced diet can go a long way in preventing heart disease in women.
- Cancer is another serious health threat facing women today. Breast Cancer, Lung Cancer, Colorectal Cancer and Skin Cancer are particularly threatening to women. Again, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and getting regular healthcare is one of the best things you can do to minimize your risk for these types of cancers.
- Stroke is another serious health threat affecting women. Some risk factors for stroke such as age, family history and race cannot be modified. However, factors such as diet, weight, and managing conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes can be controlled.
Other threats to women’s health include chronic lower respiratory disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, accidents and Type II Diabetes.
