Pregnancy Advice (Wanted & Unwanted)

Pregnant Woman in a Field Marietta GA

Have you seen some of the hilarious cards on someecards.com?

“Thank you for the awesome parenting tip, random stranger in shopping center,” said no one ever..

And then there’s this one:

“Oh good, I am pregnant. Bring on the unsolicited advice and inappropriate belly touching.”

It truly is a crazy phenomenon that most women face. As soon as your belly starts to reveal the baby that you’re carrying, random strangers see it as an invitation to chat and share their unsolicited advice and pregnancy and delivery stories with you. And, if you’re one of the ‘lucky’ ones, that random stranger will attempt to tell you all of this while putting her hand on your belly too! It’s all so awkward and hard to handle sometimes. Strangers that may have never taken an interest in you before you were pregnant, suddenly take a sharp interest in you.

The reason for this could be because there is a perceived instant connection between women who are mothers, or are about to become mothers. Some of the advice you might get is valuable, but other advice may go against your parenting or pregnancy philosophy.

Try to listen, thank and take away any advice you may wish to. However, when it comes to trusted expert advice during your pregnancy, it’s best to rely on the experience of the doctors who are trained experts on what’s best for you and your baby.
