Wellness Exams
Being proactive is a great way to avoid many unpleasant things in life. By being proactive with your money, you can stay out of debt. By being proactive with car maintenance, you can avoid a break down on the side of the road. While many people will put a great deal of time into taking care of others and other things, women are notorious for neglecting their health.
Wellness exams should be seen as a priority in life. Typically done only once a year, women’s wellness exams include annual physicals and pap smears, cervical cancer screenings, mammography referrals, contraception counseling, management of the menstrual cycle, treatment for the symptoms of menopause, teen/adolescence care, and more.
It is understandable that many women do not particularly enjoy wellness exams. These appointments often feel like an invasion of your privacy and cause many women to feel self-conscious and embarrassed. At Marietta OB-GYN Affiliates, P.A. we honestly completely understand. Our female physicians and nurses are patients, too. That is why, during any appointment with our practice, we provide sensitive and compassionate care. Knowing what you will experience before you arrive (whether this is your first wellness appointment or your 31st wellness appointment) can prepare you ahead of time.
During your wellness exam, your appointment will begin with a simple conversation. Any red flags or concerns with your family history, personal medical history, or any present symptoms will be discussed. Please be as open and honest during this discussion. We cannot provide care for what we are not aware of. Your blood pressure will be taken, and a finger prick will be administered to check your iron.
The physical exam will involve the examination of your breasts, the genitalia and pelvic area, and a pap smear. This physical exam will take approximately 3 minutes, and it will be done with a gentle hand. All lab work will be sent off.
Each wellness exam follows the same pattern, yet each exam will differ slightly based on a woman’s age, overall activity, sexual activity, family history, and other factors.
