After Your Cesarean Delivery

Marietta GA New Mom Kissing Her Baby

A Cesarean delivery delivers you with a beautiful baby. It can also give you a variety of unique post-delivery issues you may need to navigate due to the nature of this type of birth.

A Cesarean Section (C-Section)

A Cesarean Section is a type of birth performed as a surgical incision in your abdomen and uterus to allow your baby or babies to be born safely when a vaginal birth is not the safest route. This method of birthing your baby can be planned or unplanned.

Recovering From Your C-Section

Recovering from a C-Section will take longer than recovering from a routine vaginal delivery. Healthline gives C-Section: Tips for a Fast Recovery.

  1. Get plenty of rest. Try to sleep when your baby sleeps.
  2. Baby your body. Avoid stairs. Don’t lift anything heavier than your baby and take gentle walks, as you’re able.
  3. Relieve your pain. Ask your doctor which medications you can take to help relieve your pain.
  4. Focus on good nutrition. Drink plenty of water (especially if you’re breastfeeding) and eat a healthy, well-balanced diet.

It’s important to understand that your recovery from your C-Section will be different from your girlfriend or sister’s recovery. The unique circumstances of your childbirth will produce a unique recovery process. Don’t get discouraged or compare yourself to other moms. Embrace your circumstances and follow the doctor’s instructions and remain focused on healing and enjoying your new baby.
