Minimally Invasive Fibroid Removal

A fibroid is a benign tumor that grows from the muscle layers of the uterus. This common condition affects many women around the world. In fact, about 20% to 80% of women develop fibroids by the time they reach the age of 50. Some women with uterine fibroids experience symptoms such as heavy menstrual periods, abdominal pains, premature birth, labor and delivery problems and infertility. Others with fibroids do not experience any symptoms at all.

Before treating fibroid tumors, it is important to get a proper diagnoses to confirm that the tumors are from benign causes and not a sign of a more serious medical problem. Treatment for uterine fibroids includes medicines for pain relief, medicines to shrink the tumors or to prevent further growth, and in more serious cases, surgery to remove the fibroids (Myomectomy). Your Gynecologists will determine the best course of treatment for you based on the severity of your symptoms, the size and location of the fibroids, whether or not you want to become pregnant in the future, and other factors.

If you do require a Myomectomy, your Gynecologist may recommend MyoSure® fibroid removal.  This advanced Gynecologic procedure provides a minimally invasive method for removing fibroid tumors that involves accessing the uterus through the vagina with an instrument called a hysteroscope and then using it to remove the fibroid tumors. Many OBGYN practices, including Marietta OB-GYN Affiliates, P.A., offer MyoSure® fibroid removal as an outpatient procedure. Most patients recover from this procedure in just two days.

You do not have to live with the symptoms associated with fibroid tumors. If you are experiencing symptoms, talk to your Gynecologist today to see if MyoSure® fibroid removal is right for you.
