Options for Managing Your Monthly Flow

Managing your monthly flow has never been easier. There are probably more options available than you know! If you are looking for a different way to manage your monthly flow, here are some of the options available to you.

Pads
Menstrual pads have been the most common method for managing periods for decades now. Disposable, absorbent pads replaced “rags” that were used for centuries before. Pads have an adhesive side that allows them to remain in place once you put them in your panties. Pads are relatively inexpensive and disposable, but they can be uncomfortable to wear. For women who have a heavy flow, they often need a thick pad to absorb the blood that they pass. This thick pad can feel like a diaper, and it cannot typically be worn under leggings or tight-fitting clothing.

Tampons
Tampons are an absorbent feminine hygiene product designed to absorb the menstrual flow by insertion into the vagina during menstruation. A tampon is held in place by the vagina and expands as it soaks up menstrual blood. This option is most often chosen for its discretion because it can easily be carried in a small bag, and it is not noticeable under clothing.

Period Panties
Period panties are super-absorbent panties with multiple layers that help to absorb the menstrual flow without the use of pads or tampons. These panties come in all shapes and sizes, and they are made to provide protection all day or night. They are designed to hold up to four tampons’ worth of fluid. While period panties claim to be “leakproof,” the greatest concern is that blood will leak and show up on clothes. You will want to find your correct size and absorption rate!

Period Cups
The latest on the market, period cups are small, flexible funnel-shaped cups made of rubber or silicone that are inserted into the vagina to catch and collect period fluid. These cups can hold more blood than the other options, and they are popular among those who want an eco-friendly option.
