What To Expect After Your Laparoscopy

Woman in Pain Atlanta GA

Our team at Marietta OB-GYN Affiliates, P.A. offers advanced video laparoscopy. This minimally invasive surgery is used to view your reproductive organs including the outside of your uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes and nearby organs. It is used as a diagnostic tool to discover the causes of pelvic pain, examine tissue masses, confirm endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease and look for causes of infertility.

If you need a laparoscopy performed, here’s what you can expect. A thin viewing tube is inserted through a small incision in your abdomen. This tube enables images to be taken of your reproductive organs and nearby organs.

After Your Laparoscopy

After you have the procedure it is common to feel moderate pain and some throbbing where your incision was made. This pain should only last a few days. Some shoulder pain is common as well; this is due to the carbon dioxide gas that it used to inflate your abdomen to make space for the surgical instruments. This gas can cause irritation in your diaphragm. You may also experience bloating for a couple of days.
